Rectangular feature pattern with end face or edge and spacing, rather than number of instances

I want to define a rectangular feature pattern in a single direction. However, I want to input a "terminal" edge and spacing rather than a number of occurrences. IOW I want to let Inventor calculate the number of occurrences for me.

IOW if overall patten length is 10cm and I input 2cm spacing it should make 5 instances.

Obviously I can do this with formulas but do I have any way of doing this with the feature pattern command directly?

Thanks so much

Joe

I believe you are looking for the "Distance" Option.

The distance is the spacing between the first and the last, then the quantity is evenly distributed:

Nope, sorry. I would like to skip inputting quantity altogether. IOW I want to input either a numerical distance or (preferably) a fixed length segment and s spacing distance _only_. I want the quantity calculated for me.

You can fetch the dimension directly from a feature if you click on the right-arrow next to the value field and pick "select feature dimension". By hovering your mouse over the column count you can find its parameter name, (or look under the parameters table at Manage tab > Parameters) to use that in the length parameter formula (must also multiply by 1 inch here just to fix the units).

@Gabriel_Watson

@theycallmevirgo  Doesn't want to use formulas though from my understanding.

I don't want to use formulas. But it seems like @Gabriel_Watson has the best solution for now. At least it precludes polluting the formula table manually.

Yeah you can always file a new idea request for Inventor and see if enough votes make it happen in a next release, but this is the best we can do for now.

Hi! Or the Boundary Pattern on Inventor 2025.

Many thanks!

Yeah, I tried "boundary" originally. But it still wants an input value for number of instances.

As I said, ideally I wouldn't input anything for number of instances.

Is there any other software that can do what you are asking from Inventor?

Last year my previous employer decided to switch to HiCAD. I did the training and I believe that HiCAD had this option. There's not much useful information about the software online though.

Respectfully, I think that's beside the point.

Respectfully, if this is a straightforward modulus division and there is a demand it should be implemented.

But, now I think about it, it might not be a straightforward modulus division.
