Real Differences Between Shrinkwrap, Shrinkwrap Substitute, and Simplified Part

I have been scouring the internet for a while this morning trying to figure out why I should choose either Shrinkwrap, Shrinkwrap Substitute, or Simplified Part for my assembly. Could someone who actually knows what the differences are please explain them to me? What are the intended use cases of the different types?

Is it true that Shrinkwrap and Shrinkwrap Substitute can be updated while Simplified Part cannot? Also, I noticed that Shrinkwrap Substitute creates a LOD while Shrinkwrap doesn't, and I am wondering what the reason is for each case.

Shrinkwrap:  You define settings through the shrinkwrap dialog and Inventor will fill the voids or remove the information based on your settings.

Shrinkwrap Substitute:  Make or take an existing shrinkwrap model and replace the original assembly/part in the assembly you're working on.   In the end its making a level of detail (LOD) to toggle between the original info and the shrinkwrap info

Simplified Part:  Means you pick and choose what the simplified part is defined as..

Between simplified part and shrinkwrap there's not much different.   I was never a fan of shrinkwrap because sometimes it removes stuff I don't want it to remove and leaves stuff that I need to be removed in the simplified versoin

@Mark.Lancaster what is the best way to update a shrinkwrapped assembly that has been placed into another assembly. For instance, if you place a shrinkwrapped mezzanine into a factory and then make changes to the mezzanine, what is the best way to get the factory assembly to reflect the change?

Hi! If I understood your request correctly, you would like to update the Shrinkwrap part, right? In order to updateh Shrinkwrap ipt, you will need to find the ipt and open it in its own window. Then right-click on the top node in the browser -> Check for Update -> Update it. This extra step is ensure that the sequence of update is properly adhered. Otherwise, you can run into an endless update, since the Shrinkwrap part is a derive part of the assembly where it is placed.

Many thanks!
