HELLO! On the Visual style tab; For example, I set all my preferences (shadows, exposure, scale) in the window "Standard Style and Editor", but when I choose "Ray Tracing Mode" I lose all my previous configured and it shows me another rotation for shadows, other level of exposure and more things that I never chose. HOW DO FOR KEEP MY CONFIGURATION AND PREFERENCES ALREADY ESTABLISHED?Configuration Before -Ray Tracing-.PNG

Hi! Are you using Inventor 2016 or earlier releases? The inconsistency is due to the unique way Inventor migrated the appearance styles and lighting styles back in 2013. The file was probably created before 2013 or it references migrated legacy appearance styles and lighting styles. Starting from Inventor 2013, Inventor adopted Autodesk Material and Appearance Library. The way Inventor used to interpret colors and lighting is quite different from Autodesk Material and Appearance Library. To mitigate the difference, Inventor used the new styles to emulate the old look on migration in shaded view. However, this approach is not effective in Ray Tracing. As a result, there is a difference in the look between Shaded mode and Ray Tracing mode as you are seeing.

If the appearance styles are not from custom appearance library, you can use Task Scheduler -> Update Design Task -> check "Update local appearance and material style" option to fully convert the appearances to the new library. If the appearance styles are from custom library, you will need to adjust the styles individually and the given lighting style to reduce the difference. The process is not straight forward. Nor is it intuitive unfortunately.

Many thanks!

Hi Bryan,

Then I think the difference is due to the lighting style. 2018 incorporates Image Based Lighting (IBL). You may need to tweak some of the settings to get the look similar to prior releases. Could you share the lighting style here? I can work with the project team to understand the behavioral difference better.

Many thanks!

Hi. Thanks for your information.

Please follow below steps to adjust again and feel free to let us know if you have any more questions about this. Thanks again.

1. Select one of local lights for shadow direction. See below image.

2. How to adjust the reflection? As your image show, there is no refection in the assembly well. IMO, the reflection plane should be adjusted accordingly. See below image.

Thanks,
