Hi,

I know this probably isn't an Inventor based question but I am hoping Inventor users work well with other Autodesk software. I am looking to take a .jpeg file and somehow turn it into vectors without having to buy some external software. I have been tracing pictures and text with lines and arcs which is super time consuming. I have found the txtexplode command amazing for text and would love something similar for pictures. If you have any ideas at all I would love to hear them.

Thanks

Sandro

Not much to go on, but i'll focus on this part of your question:

If you want to turn jpg's into vectors then you'll probably need external software, but if you don't want to purchase any then you'll need to look for the free alternatives.

Inkscape is the first one that comes to me, though i'm unsure how good it is in converting jpg's to vectors.

But a google search for "free vector software" will help you in your search.

Even with vector software, converting jpg's to vectors can be a time consuming task so don't expect miracles Smiley Wink

Maybe not the best answer, but i hope it helps you along a bit.

The other way would be to bring the JPG file into Adobe Illustrator, convert to a raster, then export to DWG or DXF, then import into Inventor.

The other way, is to bring the JPG file into AutoCAD, Scale the picture to the correct scale, then trace over the required lines, then import into Inventor.

I guess you can use the 30 day demo function that many software companies offer. Not all companies give free software (3-years) for education use like ADSK does.

Inventor 2020, In-Cad, Simulation Mechanical

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file
