PVC Pipe Reducer Modeling Issue

I am having an issue in Inventor; I need to create a pipe reducer for 1 in to 3 in and 3 in to 1 1/2 in. However, I have experimented multiple ways of achieving this, and nothing has worked. Now, I'm sure there is some blatant way to do this, but I will say I'm still a sophomore interested in game design in an engineering STEM pathway. CAD is not my forte. I would appreciate it greatly if I could get some help in creating this.

I have unfortunately discarded all of my past attempts, however I can describe the process in detail. First I would create a 2d sketch on the xy plane for organization. Then, I would extrude to 1 1/2 of an inch. (This is most likely where I went wrong.) After that, I created an axis to try and revolve around that. However, I would need something to extrude off of. This is where I would hit my bump in the road.

Welcome to the forum,

 

My first question is WHY are you modeling this? Is it for you to exercise?

 

Because these are modeled allready in Content Center and I would just copy a family and customize it for your need. The UPVC fittings come under DIN, ISO, or JIS standard so make sure you attach them to your library.

 

You can then search for families with "PVC, Unplasticized" material in Tube and PIpe category. I've never used the Reducer you need because it's not recommended (price and all) and we use the reducing bush from CC "DIN 8063 Reducing Bushing Type R2" but I guess you're more after "DIN 8063 Reducing Bushing Type R1"

 

I have attached a ASME BPE reducer as an example but you need to change it. It's things like material, Tube and Pipe authoring information, sizes, and the whole ipart table really to suit yours.

Use the revolve command instead of extruding and lofting.  Makes for a cleaner model.

I agree with Adrian though.  Unless this is for a school project or called out in a spec, a reducer bushing is used most of the time.

I agree with Aaron and Adrian.  It would help to see what the finished part should look like, and know what pipe spec you are trying to achieve.  Most likely a suitable family already exists in the Content Center, but if not we would be in a better position to help you if we knew what you wanted as a finished part.  Aaron is right that revolve is the best method for this type of part.  very robust model, and can easily be made into an ipart and tabulated for multiple sizes, and then published to the Content Center.
