Project file links Vs Application Options links

I do not understand that which links/ folder locations drive the working of Inventor program with respect to references in ipt, iam, idw files?

Are references to all files/folder locations in project are  linked to only the folder(sub-folders) where project file is located or is it a combination of project location and default local C: locations?

I have attached two images illustrating Manager windows for Application options and project file. Locations in project file are set up by myself but the locations in the applciation options manager are coming up as default to C local drive.

Project file settings take priority over application options..

The application options are basically only used when there is no proper location defined for that aspect of the program setup in your project file..

There are also things in the application options that are not defined in the project file and need to be set in the application options..

What problem are you having?

You have three locations that can be specified in either project or application options: Design Data, Templates, and Content Center Files.  If these will never change, then specify them in Application Options and leave project file(s) pointing to [Default].  Any of them which will change with a change in project should be specified in the project file.  As other posters have said, project file trumps application options.

In my former place of work, all projects used the same Design Data and Templates, but the Content Library location was set to a location under the project structure.

In a different situation where you are doing work for different customers, each project would need to have its own templates and design data locations.  Depends entirely on the work you're doing.

@mcgyvr

I guess I did not say I am having problems, I was in doubt that, to which locations the files are being stored or operated from as there were two locations defined in Inventor. So it clarifies Thanks!
