ProE & IGES Files

Hello,

We have a huge amount of ProE legacy files and many of them were saved as IGES files. When these files are opened in Inventor they become translucent composite bodies that cannot be edited. You can extrude solids off of them but you cannot add holes or make cuts. Is there any way to work with these parts? They are rather complex and I do not want to re-model them. I have run 'repair geometry' but that does not help.

Hi!

The files you're open are just surfaces, not solids.
After opening the parts, you have to  turn the surfaces into solids:

Select all the faces and Use the "Stitch" tool to do that:

Check the icon difference:

Great! Thanks very much. I have been using Inventor for over 15 years and I never had to use surfaces. There is so much functionality that I never have occasion to use. Am I correct that Direct Edit will not work with Stitched Surfaces??

After you turn the part into solid, all the tools will work as ihey should, including the Direct tool.
BTW, the "Direct" tool will be a great tool to do changes in the part, since you don't have any features in the browser.

I use Direct Edit quite frequently and think it is a very useful tool. However, when I right click on any features in the tree Direct Edit is not available. The part is now a solid, it has density.

Those holes do not appear correct geometry (in the original).

I think I would Delete Face with Heal and recreate.
