Problems with Content Center

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi!

I use Inventor for school, and my Content Center was working fine until one day. It seems I may have removed something, but I can't figure out what it is. I am not very good with computers, and have googled for several hours, asked my teachers, but I can't find a solution. Content Center is installed, we don't use Vault but it seems maybe I need this? I tried installing it, but got the following error (see picture). I also got a message saying I need Data Management Server, but is this the same as Vault Server?

If your school doesn't use Vault, then you shouldn't need to use Vault for your Content Center either.  However, there may be a setting somewhere that is (incorrectly) telling Inventor to use Vault for CC.

In Inventor, go to Tools, Application Options.  On the Content Center tab, check the setting under "Access Options".  If set to "Autodesk Vault Server", switch it to "Inventor Desktop Content".  If already set that way, post back here and we can look for something else.

Hi,

I think vault and Content center are totally two different thinks, but at present I am not using vault or not expert it in. Please check below my openion

Vault is used for data management that is, if different designers are working on one same project or assembly then every one can work on same file and can check who is working on any file (checked out) and then he can wait for checked in of that file and once he see the file is checked in then he will checked out and update and then again check in vault and so on another leader/engineer will release once all is correct like this.

Content Center is a standard library where all our standard parts such DIN, ISO standard nuts bolts etc. is saved is specific folder which you used in current assembly so that next whenever u open the assembly it takes that standard parts from that library (content content center which u specified in your project path)

In your case I think if you had a stand alone license of Inventor then you are missing content center library and please try to install it and then again check

@Dnyaneshwar_Maid, your explanation of what Vault and Content Center do is correct.  However, what you may not be aware of is that the Content Center libraries can be stored inside Vault.  So while they are functionally two different things, Content Center and Vault can be related depending on the way Inventor has been set up.

I believe that the problem @Anonymous is experiencing may be because a setting has been changed (by accident) that makes Inventor look for its Content Center in the Vault.  Since this user doesn't actually use Vault (and may not even have it installed), that causes Inventor to look for its Content Center libraries in a Vault database that doesn't even exist.  This may be the source of the message about needing the Data Management Server.

@Anonymous

First lets back up and explain what you see when you go to use place from content center in your assembly.  Show a screen shot of what you are seeing.  There's no need to install Vault server at all.

Update:  In addition go to Tools/Application Options/Content Center tab..  What do you have as the Access Pption

Inventor Desktop Content

Or Autodesk Vault Server

If its set to Vault server, change it to Inventor Desktop Content

I've included a couple of pictures of the default Inventor Application File Settings as well as the standard Content Center settings. I've included a capture of a Project File that I use for our work. You can override the Inventor default settings for some items by the Project File.

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file

Hi! Likely you need to install Inventor 2018.3 update followed by 2018.3.10 update.

Many thanks!
