Problem creating a revolve feature

I am modeling a drill shank which has several different diameters and taper along the length.  I created the part using the revolve command.  When I revolved the profile it produced a "copper" colored shank with yellow outlines along several of the diameters.  I changed the material appearance to steel which restored the appearance and removed the yellow lines, however each time I save and re-open the file the yellow lines reappear.  What am I missing here ?  File attached.

Hi,

The sketch is a open loop which resulted in a surface body and not a solid body. The "copper or yellow" look comes from the surface body.

  1. Make your sketch a closed loop (see picture)
  2. Delete the surface revolve (don't throw away the sketch!)
  3. Do a new revolve as a solid

Should do the trick!

I attached a file with a solid body as well.

Also try to fully define your sketch!

Good luck!

I am new to Inventor and have just began learning the error messages and how to work with them.  It is good to know about the open loop and how it affected the feature.  I notice at times the extrusion will fail and I get a message pointing out an open loop. Interesting that no message appeared this time when I selected Revolve.  Thanks for the close look at the sketch and catching the mistake.
