Presentation - Missing items in browser

Hello,

We're using Inventor Professional 2026, Build 175.

Opening a presentation file (ipn), which was created a number of years ago (iproperties suggest 2020). The file opens fine. No resolving issues reported. However, the browser only lists three items under the main assembly and there doesn't appear to be any way to show the rest. The graphics window shows a lot more - almost as it should although it no longer matches the view rep chosen. There are a few parts not visible.

The storyboard at the bottom lists everything that has been tweaked, so no issues there.

If we open the assembly file (iam) behind it, we see the full list with about 16 items. Please see images below.

I've checked there's no model states behind this. The only errors in the iam are a few lost constraints, so I wouldn't expect that to cause this issue.

Any ideas what might be going on or how to show the full tree again? Anyone else seen this?

Many thanks

Hi Steve,

I could be wrong but I suspect this is a corruption. I vaguely recall it could be due to restructured operations within the assembly. However, we have not been able to reproduce the behavior from scratch. Unfortunately, the ipn file will need to be recreated in this case.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

Thanks for responding. That's disappointing to hear. We have a folder with 27 of these presentation files, based off one machine design (Not off one assembly file I must add), so all created about the same time. I have opened about five random choices so far and all of them are the same. Could this be a migration issue? If we'd re-structured in one assembly, why would it affect others?

I'm sure you'll appreciate, having to re-create all those files is a massive headache...

I'm now looking at other machines that were created years ago. I've tried a different machine type, so won't use the same components as the models I was looking at earlier.

The first presentation file I've opened lists literally just the top level and can't be expanded. This is a major problem.

OK. So, I've tried a few more random choices, different years and different machines. Some are ok and some are not. The ones that have problems are the same on different PC's.

Some load up with warnings for lost constraints. Fixing those doesn't make any difference. One loaded up with warnings about being created in Beta software, but that particular one is fine.

Can't work out where the issue starts and ends...

Hi Steve,

This is absolutely a corruption. I vaguely remember it was migration related to LOD related. We could have multiple issues. The trouble is that we don't know how and when it happened. The damage is already done until you see it. I personally think it was LOD related. Because Presentation environment does not allow the user to change LOD like Design View Rep. Some user changes the LOD consumed by the Presentation. Or the original model source is swapped out and the ipn is forced to resolve to a new model source. Neither is a supported workflow.

Though we have seen similar corrupted ipn files, we don't have a reproducible workflow to investigate it further unfortunately.

Many thanks!
