Preferred method for moving projects and files to different location?

Hi all,

I was just curios about something, i know that iLogic Design Copy can be used to make a duplicate of a project and files in a different location.

What I was wondering was, what is the preferred method that you guys use to move a project and its files to a different location without having IV lose its path to the project file?

This is on the local HDD, not vault & not on a server.

Feedback is welcome!

As long as it is in the search umbrella of the project file and its workspace, it shouldn't lose any links. Are you wanting to move it from say a local c to a local e drive?

Depends on how you setup your project folders.

Also if "Using Unique File Names" is Yes or No.

If the project file (.ipj) moves to a new location, the shortcut to that file that appears in your list of projects will no longer be valid.  Simply browse to the new location and open it.  After that, the new location will appear in your project list.  The project list is merely a list of shortcuts, so it is easily edited simply by deleting a shortcut, or opening a new one.  The list can also be manually edited through Windows File Explorer.  The list is located in the folder specified by Application Options > File > Projects folder.

This is what I have been doing in the past, just browsing back to where the project is. i thought there might be a streamlined workflow to do it with many projects at once?

I haven't tried it, but I suspect that you could do this using tools in Windows File Explorer.  What happens if you Create Shortcut in File Explorer for each relocated project file, then drag or Cut/Paste to the Project shortcuts folder?  Might be quicker than opening each one in the Project Editor?

When I have a bunch of folders to move I will give this a shot. But at the moment I moved all of them and then one-by-one browsed to each project. Doable, just take a long time.
