If shrinkwrap allows level of detail and positional representations, why cannot the other methods of exporting handle them?

It seems like a silly limit, but I have a partial workaround:

Bob.iam has a position rep that I need to send out as a .stp file,

  1. Make a holding assembly, Charlie.iam.
  2. Place Bob.iam in Charlie.iam.
  3. Use the RMB Representations menu pick on Bob.iam.
  4. Select the necessary Position Rep for Bob.
  5. Export from Charlie.

It's not as nice as I would like, but it works.

Hi! The limitation is specific to PosRep, not LOD. It is because a given assembly is not allowed to be saved in a non-Master PosRep state. As a result, it cannot be exported or saved as such. We have heard feedback requesting to remove the limitation. It is on our radar but it has not been done yet.

Many thanks!

Thanks, for my purposes I utilized shrinkwrap then exported.
