Performance Issue

Hey guys,

I recently downloaded our subscription upgrade for Inventor 2016. I haven't started using it yet, but I did open some older, but not used files just to check it out. I am still using 2015 for day to day work but from the day I installed 2016, I have had performance issues with 2015. Long update times and "not responding" issues which I wait out. I suspect it is not a coinsidance that all this started the same day I installed Inventor 2016. I'm not quite ready to commit to 2016 yet as I would like to see some feedback from other users and play with it a little more at home. Any thouhghts? Anyone else experiencing similar issues? This isn't a priority issue, if I have to make the switch to clear it up, I will, I just thought it might be a simple fix. All my woking files reside on a server which stores all company files and everyone else works from. (everyone consisting of 5 of us total with me being the only Inventor seat) I talked to the person who does the server maintainence and it's not a schedualed thing, just whenever he feels it needs it.

I appreciated any and all input, hope you guys have a great day.

What service packs and/or updates have you applied to Inventor 2015?

Changes (or updates) to Anti-Virus software?

Graphics card driver up to date?

Using a 3D mouse, is the driver up to date?

How much data (files/folder) is in your  c:\user\<user name?\appdata\local\temp folder?

In addition I'm running 2013, 14, 15, and 16 all on the same machine with no issues...

You might try a repair install on your 2015 installation and see if that helps.

Mark,

latest service packs on 2015. Anit-virus is automatic from server. Motion controler is an older (no longer supported, but I have latest (available) driver for that). It's a space pilot for what its worth. And no issues to date with that. Latest driver for graphics card (ATI FirePro V7800 FireGL). No such path on this machine but all project files reside on server. Local disk usage is 26.2G of 1.77T, so not even at the 25% level.

I had all the previous version on this machine at one time but cleaned them all off except Inventor 2015, but that was months ago. So except for the new 2016 Premium Design Suite, the only other Autodesk products are all 2015 versions.

Thanks for the input guys. It just may be a network performance issue after all.

Great Idea John! don't know why I didn't think of that. Doing it now, will post results later.

Thanks for the great Idea John.

John,

That did  the trick, for the most part. Minor glitches now that i'm chalking up to network traffic/glitches. Just curious, did you have to do the same after installing Inventor 2016?

Anyhow thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

Glad that worked, it's an easy fix.  I have had to do repair installs before after installing other software.

The last time it was an Acrobat install that screwed up a registry entry, running Acrobat would launch Inventor setup.

I have seen other instances where the prior Inventor version was not behaving correctly after a new version install, and that fixed it.

I installed 2016 the day it was available in my subscription, which was a Thursday.  By the next Wednesday I was comfortable enough with how things were running that I offloaded a backup of my 2015 files and migrated my working directory to 2016.  I still have 2015 installed, but I haven't used it since then.

2016 is running great.  I've had one or two crashes, but those were more my fault than anything else.  I'm pretty happy with it so far!
