Parts List Column Precision

Hello

This could be easy but I couldn't find the proper solution.

QTY column in attached image.

How to change length precision roundup to ITEM: 8,9,10 & 11. (ie. 710.594 mm to 710 mm)

I've used frame generator which are custom made structural shape members to custom library

All other components from CC.

What's the proper way that I will get all Frame Generator members Quantity rounded up every time.

Hello, you can right-click on your parts list > edit parts list style. Then click on the QTY cell. Select the radio button for "Apply Units Formatting".

That should get you what you want. Hope this helps!

Thanks for a reply.

I already tried that but that option applies unit "mm" to all items in partlist.

I want only Frame Generator members to be precised as they got length in "mm".

All other components got unit quantities. so can't be with unit "mm".

Please see attached.

OR

I can uncheck "Unit String" there. But that removes unit "mm" from FG members.

Wondering, I may missing something.

We always did things a little different. So we would use "Item Qty" so that way the assy would just read how many items exist in the assy. (5) C6x8.2, but would have a separate column for the length. That way all lengths would be in one column and not have a mix of item qty and lengths in the same column. make sense?

Still struggling ...

Defiantly, I lost.

Please see the attached. (PARTS LIST - ITEM QTY.jpg)

That's the way generally I use where there is a Frame Generator member exist.

OR

Please see attahced (PARTS LIST - BASE UNIT.jpg)

sometimes I use "Base QTY" Column to remove precision and removing "unit.string"

ALSO

Please see attached (PARTS LIST - STATIC VALUE.jpg)

This is the way I need my Parts list if possible.

This is with changed values (static value) manually, as a sample.

Can I get a bit explanation, what change needs to be there  ??

Many thanks.

"Edit Part List".

Right click the QTY item where shows a blue box, then uncheck the "Static Value".

This will bring back the true QTY value.

If you want to show pipe lengths, don't show them in "QTY" column. What blandb has said is right.

"but would have a separate column for the length. That way all lengths would be in one column and not have a mix of item qty and lengths in the same column."

Please mark "Accept as Solution" and "Like" if my reply resolves the issue and it will help when others need helps.

Thanks Brad

But I think this is the same as I've done as shown above in image PARTS LIST - BASE UNIT.jpg

However I think that's not easy to get partslist perfectly same as I want as attached.

So, I should stick with I am doing for now.

Many Thanks guys

Dear Mr Patel,

I hope this post still reaches you as the last activity on this thread was over 2 years ago.

I am happy to tell you i may have found the solution (or work around) to your problem. I have yet to test the consistency of the solution, but preliminary results are actually quite positive.

See the image below for the result.

image.png

I came upon your question as i was struggling with this issue myself. A fellow colleague complained the ,000 would suggest to the frame supplier we needed some very precise dimensions. We don't, obviously.

I am unable to make a fancy video (screencast, i believe) as i have no knowledge of how to, but i will try to explain as clearly as possible.

The solution:

1. Open (edit) the parts list in the drawing.

2. "format column" the desired column.

image.png

3. In the "substitution" tab, enable value substitution.

I used frame generator, and i believe frame generator exports the G_L property of its parts as default, so you might be able to use this value as well. You could also use a different value if you so wish, there is plenty of information about value substitution available.

4. Also apply "Units Formatting".

The units formatting in the substitution tab applies only to the substituted values, not the entire column.

The settings should look like this:

image.png

The RED settings modify how the values are displayed, i believe the settings shown above will result in what you desire, but feel free to experiment yourself.

The BLUE setting is relevant if you have non-unique parts and have set up grouping accordingly, you should probably set it to "sum of values" then. If you have unique parts only (non consolidating rows), the setting can be ignored.

image.png

Should look like this now. The blue-ish fill means they are substituted, this doesn't show in your parts list on the drawing.

If you have any questions i'd love to hear them, i might be able to help some more.

If you encounter any problems (and find a solution or not) i'd like to hear it as well, share the knowledge!

I am trying to do this but with virtual components instead of frame generator.

So let's say my virtual component is some tubing, and I need about 2 ft (i.e. not the default 2.000 ft).

How can I do this properly without incorrectly changing the rest of the QTY column's values?

If you create a user parameter called "tube_length" for example, set the units to "ft". Now right-click on your virtual component > Component settings > set base quantity drop down to your user parameter, then that should also change your base unit to ft. Hope that helps.

Yes that is what I did, however, it still shows the 3 trailing zeros (even in your picture), but I want none (similar to above conversation).

Hi! The trailing zero in this case is controlled by the assembly doc settings. Go to Tools -> Doc Settings -> Units -> Linear Dim Display Precision. Change it to no decimal place.

Many thanks!

And for anything that is not a virtual component, it comes from the same Document Setting that @johnsonshiue indicated - but in the original component file.

Since this post included Frame Generator workarounds to get rid of all the decimal places (and may therefore be discovered by others) - here's a link back to a post showing how you can permanently fix the problem without formatting the entire QTY column in your Parts List:  https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/part-number-generation-from-frame-cutting-list/m-p/107...
