Parts are black

Hello,

I updated my inventor to inventor 2022. But now all the new parts i draw in 2022 are black. 

The generic appearance is black and all the other appearances are dark. When i make a part light green it turns dark green. When i make a part steel mild, it is also very dark. If i cut the steel mild part in half while sketching the surface is black again. All the parts drawn in 2021 appear normal. 

I don't know what happened or how to fix it.

This is probably due to the lighting environment you are using.  When you installed 2022, did you choose to import your settings from 2021?  If not, you probably installed 2022 with different lighting and environment settings than you are used to.  Look at Application Options\Colors... and also Styles and Standards on the Manage tab\ Lighting... check those settings and adjust until things look the way you want.  f you still have 2021 installed you could go back and see what your settings were before upgrading, or you could export those, and then import them into 2022.

I can confirm it's lighting - I don't know which lighting environment you were on since it just showed as default but changing it Cool Light showed more expected.

It is wierd, but i kind of fixed it. I needed to migrate my settings from 2021 again. Inventor asks to update a style, the lighting style that messes things up so I wont update it. I don't know where that came from. How can i delete that style? Otherwise it keeps asking to update the styles.

Well i did not fix it. I now have another problem, in my template file the problem is fixed. But when i create a new part it's is black again. very strange. But i know now it is a lighting problem changing to cool light or something else doesnt work.

Open your template ipt file. Set the correct lighting style and save that template. 

When creating a new part you need to make sure you are selecting that same template file to use to create the new part.. If you are sure your template is correct and new parts aren't then you most likely aren't using that template when starting a new part... 

A note about that dialog box you got..

There are local styles (the styles in the current document) and the styles in the style library

Doing an "Update Styles" will update the local documents styles to match the styles in the style library.

Doing a "Save Styles" will update the style library styles with the documents local styles.

Understanding how styles/style library/template files and project files work is very important/helpful in Inventor. 

Hopefully the simple comments about updating/saving styles will be enough to get you going to correct the issue on your own.. If not please attach your template ipt file.

Hello, i am sure i use the correct template.

I tought i knew how styles worked but i don't know how to delete a style.

I don't want to update or save the default ibl style in the dialog box from earlier. I think that is what causes the problems. When i open a part (wich uses my correct template) and i click 'update or save styles' there are no styles to  update. But in the template file there is.

Mayby there is a problem with my project file, i don't know.

Having the same issue, when making any change and save to the Style Library the default lighting Environment Tab 'Image Based Lighting section' disappears from all the presents, still looking for a solution as how to add these back. 

With no environments loading 'Parts are Black' because of no illumination.

@technik-3d  Can you please post your "lighting.xml" file from in your style library folder please?

Please ensure that the file you post is in the folder listed in the "Design Data (Styles,etc..)" field in tools..application options as your project file does not explicitly call out that location so its set there. 

Sure seems though from the amount of recent posts about similar issues that there might be some bug though in Inventor vs just an incorrect setting (or a bug in migration causing an incorrect setting I guess)

Hi All, update from previous - problem persists following re-install. Clean uninstall of inventor 21 & 22, files & new install inventor 2022.

Default project set to Read & Wight

Using default templates opened standard.idw and modified Label text to Justify Left in the styles editor.

Go to Manage Styles, Save.

'Migrate Styles to current release' popup(see attached), why not current if new install?  pressed OK. Close file.

Open New Part & get Styles Conflict box popup, Lighting - IBL Default (see attached), click ok - go to Styles, lighting & All default IBL Environment tabs 'Image Based Lighting section' have disappeared. Now just showing Lighting & shadows tabs only (see attached) on all default styles.

Go back & open the Part Template directly and the Default_IBL lighting has the environment tab, but all other defaults the tab is missing?

Checked C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2022\Environments & all files are present. check file path in project and the same.

Its Migrate to current release that seems to generate the issue, I made the modification the new default template install files from 2022, could there be a legacy Styles Manager that the install is picking up on? Otherwise why would it want to migrate to current? I did delete all files as listed by Autodesk & in the system registry to hopefully obtain a full clean install???

Had to set up some lights in the default IBL and save for now, at least Part isn't Black for now, just no environments

Hi All

J.Weber posted a workaround on my post and all seems good, see below, (slightly modified to simplify the explanation).

J.Weber - There is a little workaround that I use. 

I save all the styles after the installation from Inventor 2022. (Create copy / backup of the 2022 Design Data Folder after new install)

Than I edit my styles, modify drawing styles and save it to the library. 

After the migrate to new popup which then causes the lighting style from working correctly. "My Parts are Black"

Copy the lighting.xml from the backup & over wright the lighting.xml in the Design Data folder in your C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2022\Design Data folder

After that everything is ok. 

I think it is a way till Autodesk fix the problem

To Save reinstallation I have attached a copy of the Default 2022 Lighting.xml, just over right the original if you have this issue and all the IBL Lighting environments are good again, further mods to the style library don't seen to recreate the issue as you done get the "Migrate to New" popup which seems to create the issue.

@leowarren34 you solved the "parts appearing black" for me! Changing from lighting style: "Default IBL" to "Default Lights" fixed it. It's funny, I can even go back to Default IBL now and the lights are at their normal cheery selves!

Solution that worked for me:

View (Inventor menu), Appearance (group), Lighting Style: Default Lights (was Default IBL)

I had this issue on another Inventor 2022 upgrade from 2021. The "default IBL" was selected and was black. 

IBL = Image Based Lighting and it seems to have lost the reference to the image. All the other IBL types have their own folder under /Environment but "default IBL" does not.

I have a new PC and installed Inventor 2022 from scratch.  This should not be so difficult.  This comment, "Manage tab\ Lighting... check those settings and adjust until things look the way you want." is not a solution.  Do I need a class on how to adjust the style manager?  All I want to do is change the lighting style but instead my parts turn black.  Please do not post a "work around."  How about software fix instead.  I should have known better than to install 2022.  Why not release a fully tested program in the year 2022?

Thanks for the lighting.xml file.  I installed the latest updates and the lighting options still did not work.  After dropping your lighting.xml file into the right folder, it all works.  Wonder why AutoDesk cannot place this XML file into their program so I don't have to search the internet for hours.
