PART SHOWING AS REFERENCE IN DRAWING BUT NEED TO BE ACTUAL PART

I am creating a computer server cabinet and am having an issue when in the model and drawings.

In both the assembly model of the cabinet frame and all attached components are showing as reference parts. I have been into the BOM to change this but the field to change this is greyed out. It is utterly frustrating as all the parts within the cabinet have to be ballooned in the drawing but i cannot ballon them and they don't show in the drawing BOM.

Can anyone shed any light on this. 

Unfortunately i cannot post images or screen grabs due to the sensitivity of the information within the drawings.

When you say you have been in the BOM to try and change this reference field, are you talking about in the drawing?  Or in the assembly model?  Or, have you tried both with no success.

Is this example bom structure similar to yours?

 -cabinetframe.iam (marked as reference)

 --part1.ipt(marked as reference)

 --part2.ipt(marked as reference)

 -otherassys.iam

 -otherparts.ipt

If so have you done the following

#1-Opened cabinetframe.iam and gone to tools..document settings..Bill of Materials tab and changed (or ensured that the bom structure is set to "Normal" (repeat for any/all files that are marked as reference)

#2-Opened TopLevelAssy.iam and right clicked on cabinetframe.iam and gone to "Bom Structure" flyout and set it to "Default(normal)"

I don't remember doing either.

How can i correct this as it is meaning vital parts of the assemblies are not being ballooned or added to the drawing BOM table.

Assuming you were responding to me..  please answer the question about if the example bom structure is similar to your situation and then perform both steps I posted above and let us know if that solved the issue.

Based on the image you just posted nothing is marked as a reference part.

Do you mean that some items in your drawing and showing with "hidden lines" or something else?

What is your definition of a part "showing as reference"

If those are showing as hidden lines is it because those parts are behind (or inside) something else like the cabinet door?

No they are showing as referenced parts, that is why i am so baffled as to what is wrong with the drawings.

I don't see a response to what I posted above.  I never mentioned anything in my above screen shot regarding the drawing.  That was in an assembly  RCing on the part.

I agree with @mcgyvr  you need to be specific with your answers and make sure you are NOT responding to yourself as either one of us are just guessing as to who you are responding to.

Remember we are not sitting at your work station being able to try different things.  We are flying a tad bit blind here and relying on what you are telling us.

What is your drawing selection filter set to?

Can you edit the parts list in the drawing and show us that parts list dialog box? (black out what you need to)..

Typically, if you cannot change the BOM Status of a component in the Assembly BOM, then it means the file is Read Only.  Make sure your files are write capable.

Hi Michael,

A part can be set as Reference in two places.

1) In Document Settings, BOM tab, you can set the part to be Reference. This will be the default BOM structure property for the given part when consumed in an assembly. The change here requires you to save the file. Also, if you make the BOM structure change within BOM dialog, it applies to the document.

2) Another place is at instance level. Open the immediate assembly having the part and right-click on it -> BOM Structure -> Reference or Default. This change is at the instance level. Default means the Document Setting (#1) will be honored.

The behavior you described sounds like the part is either a library part or a CC part or a readonly part like Thomas mentioned here. Please feel free to send the files (zipped) to me directly ([email protected]). I can take a quick look to understand the issue better.
