Can we insert a parameter or variable here in the "Title:" or other fields?

@chrisw01a

Hi,

you would need to mark that parameter for Export in the table of parameters and then it becomes accessible to use it in the iProperties files for expressions.

Can you show an example expression so we can see the syntax?

Thanks! How can I insert a parameter from a part to the Title field of a .IDW?

3DAli,

Mine just shows up blank. Any ideas? Thank you for your time.

I can see that this works. I am still having strange behavior on mine. Maybe since it's an older model? I will keep trying different things. I really appreciate your time!

Ok. So here is what I am struggling with. On an IDW, when you place a view, it associates that first view with the drawing correct? So when you go to document settings, drawing tab, those parameters are coming from that file (-000.iam in this example) . So I can choose parameters from that default source and they work just fine. BUT there is also an option to choose an additional source which is perfect for what we do because we do master sketches for most projects. When I select the additional file, the custom parameters show up just fine and I can select them. However, they will NOT populate. I've tried everything I can think of. The parameters are all flagged for export at the part level.

I know there are a couple of work arounds for this but I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible and also understand why it's not behaving the way I believe it should.

Is this a bug? Source files attached.

Hi! I think I know where the problem is. The issue here is that the sheet's model source is the iam file, not the ipt file. As a result, those custom iProperties are empty and the property expression does not work.

Here is what you need to do. Go to the drawing -> right-click on the sheet -> Edit Sheet -> select the ipt file as the model source. Then go to Manage -> Update Copied Properties. And the TITLE will be populated.

Many thanks!

I understand but that doesn't solve the issue of the option to select a different source file (in this case -100.ipt which is where "boxthk" is coming from so it obviously recognizes the parameter).

Thoughts?

Thank you very much for taking the time but it still doesn't address this section:

Properties in Drawing

Additional Custom Model iProperty Source Specifies a file that contains custom iProperties and adds names of custom properties to Custom Property - Model list. Then you can use properties in the drawing or template.

Click the arrow to select a file from the list, or Browse to, and select a file.

Copy Model iProperty Settings opens the Copy Model iProperty Settings dialog box. Click the command to select model iProperties to copy into the drawing.

Note: You can use copied model iProperties in parts lists, title blocks, and other annotations that access model or drawing iProperties.

Hi Chris,

I think the Additional Custom iProperty Model Source option in the Document Settings is like populating the iProperty names (not values) to the Copy Model iProperty list dialog. Ideally, you would select an ipt template file which contains the custom iProperties. You may add more custom iProperties to the ipt and the drawing will get the additional custom iProperties accordingly.

Many thanks!

I can confirm this behavior, you are right, it detects the custom iProperty, and if you check it, it won't add it to the custom iProperties of the drawing and, if you try to place it in a text, it recognizes that under the assembly source, but still no value! something to look into!

Yes, I think it is not working as intended. Hopefully Autodesk will get this fixed. Thanks for all of your help.
