Parallel sketch lines are not parallel

Hi, first of all, I'm sorry if I make any gross english mistake.
Also this is my first post, so feel free to  to tell me if this is not the correct place to post this.

I'm a new Inventor 2018 user (came from SW background) and I'm having a weird issue (many, but this one is anoying).

When I use the parallel constraint, the lines look parallel, but if I try to give a spacing distance between them I get an angle distance instead of 179.99º

This error is very easily resolved by not using the constraints and setting a 180º angle instead, but I can't but feel this is some kind of user error and really wish to start on good bases.

Picture anexed.

Thank you very much,

Artur

Artur,

You English is fine and welcome to this forum.

Based on looking at your image, the lines are parallel to each other, but not to what ever you are dimensioning too.  Make the one line parallel to that edge/line and you will get the 180°.

Attach your *.ipt file here.

There is no difference between SolidWorks and Inventor as far as sketch relations and dimensions are concerned.

Hi! There should be a logical reason in this case. I suspect the geometry may not be parallel. To prove that, we need to see the part file. Please attach it here or share a simplified example.

Many thanks!

Hi, and thank you for your answers

@Cadmanto,

The 179.99º showing is between those two lines,.. that are supposed to have a parallel constraint.

@Cadmanto@johnsonshiueI'm attaching the ipt to this post.

You've actually selected the EQUAL constraint instead of the parallel.

They look similar...

I have seen this many times, and when it happens I dimension the endpoints of the lines after using the parallel constraint. (rather than selecting the lines themselves)  Sometimes this causes problems later on, but at least you can keep moving.

@TheCADWhisperer, I think you have a typo there. The "no" should "a huge".

Indeed ! I feel dumb ! I knew it should be something quiet obvious.

Thank you very much for your help !

True, there are a lot of tools that SolidWorks falls far behind on.

I can prove it.

I do every day.

I would love to see this.  I use both programs daily, and feel like Inventor is very far behind Solidworks.  It would be great to be efficient in both programs.

A few areas that I feel are lacking in Inventor, are...

1. Designing within the context of an assembly

(In Solidworks, you can always edit the part in the assembly, in Inventor you have to make sure there are no assembly files open, and the part can also not be an ipart)

2. Apply GD&T to a drawing

3. Draft Ananlysis

(In Solidworks, you set a draft angle, and it's very easy to see surfaces that have less draft than this, you can also hover over any surface and the angle is shown.  The Inventor draft analysis is so cumbersome, I export the part to SW)

I have used both daily for 16 years.

I think that I am efficient in both programs.

@TheCADWhisperer I want to believe you, but my belief alone doesn't make me more efficient.  The reason for visiting this forum is to become more efficient in Inventor.  You mentioned you could prove that Solidworks is lacking when compared to Inventor.  Can you please share this info?  Or, since this is an Inventor forum, can you perhaps share the features you think Inventor beats Solidworks on?  If any of these things coincide with my previous list, it would be great.
