Opening IDW files from Windows File Explorer opens new instance of Inventor 2024

Hi

As the title states, opening my idw files opens a new instance of Inventor every single file opens one new instance.

I have tried doing the "Open With --> Choose another app --> Programs Files --> Autodesk --> Inventor 2024 --> Bin --> Inventor 2024.exe"

This did not change anything. I have also tried to uninstall and re-install 2024, which also updated me to newest version, but i steel have the same issue. I dont experience it with any other file type.

I am out of ideas to fix this, so all help is greatly appreciated!

Hi! Please take a look at the following support article (https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Opening-inventor-f...). It contains a lot of information about how to resolve the issue. If none of them help, please share your system spec with me johnson.shiue@autodesk.com directly. I would like to understand the behavior better.

Many thanks!

After setting the .idw files to open with another app then "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2024\Bin and select Inventor.exe." My .idw files all got a inventor thumbnail instead of the .idw template thumbnail.

However after this i left clicked an .idw file again and went to the open with and choose the default Inventor 2024 option, and this somehow turned the thumbnails back to the .idw template. Now it seems to open the files in an existing Inventor instance if one is available.

I feel like i tried this previously, so im not really sure exactly what made it work this time, but the issue seems to be fixed for now.

Thank you!
