are you saying it opens a 2nd Inventor ..

or a 2nd part file?

How are you opening it .. from Inventor or from Windows Explorer?

If you click open then it opens it new... and places it per the options on your network.  If you'd like to open in an assembly you can do that by drop and dragging it into the assembly screen (not recommended)

if you open it from inside inventor it will open a new tab,

if you open it from explorer with a RMB open with option, it will open a new Inventor.

I like opening from inside Inventor that's already open, because I can control the options that way. Where it saves how it opens, etc

Gotcha ...

unfortunately then if you open it from outside inventor it will happen.

You're missing out on options ...  but if it works for you that way, do what you know best and is easiest
