Open Solid Work file direct with Inventor?

All,

We are getting ready to move from Solid Work to Inventor in few weeks and I am doing a lot of testing and trying to see what the best way to bring only file we need for new project to Inventor. We have subscription for 2025 or 2026 sp1 but I have a lot of problem either open direct from Inventor or use the Task Schedule to Import Solid Work file with Inventor 2026-sp1 or the latest update. But with Inventor 2025 it open ok or task schedule import.

See the picture

Thanks

Hi

I don't know what the root cause of the problem is, but paradoxically, I think it's best to ignore it.

Only modeled geometry should be imported.
And it should be imported individually.

It is a good idea to re-populate all standard parts files using CC. This way you will get more information in the BOM.

Repeating items should be imported once and replicated using Patterns. This way, you'll maintain a healthy and usable BOM structure.

Thanks,

We will use new hardware from CC but the existing assembly we can also use the model from Solid Work because it has all the correct property map they come to Inventor fine.

What I am asking here is why Inventor 2025 translated correct but 2026 not.

Thanks

@johnsonshiue is there someone who you think should see this, as it looks like an inconsistency in the behavior.

Hi! Such inconsistent behavior is normally file specific. Please share the SWX files with me directly at [email protected]. I would like to understand the change in behavior better.

Many thanks!

Hi John,

Do you want the Solid Work file so you can try to import with Inventor 2025 & 2026?

Thanks

Maybe export from SW to STEP first and then import STEP to IV?

Design logic of SW will be lost in IV anyways...
---
Just curious are your SW bolts are in pattern?
If you break the SW pattern first and then open in IV again, will it work?

From SW to .stp then open with Inventor then you lost all the property.

The way I am doing is open / import direct from Inventor work better but when I use 2026 I have problem so for now I am stay with Inventor 2025.

The reason I post this mater on her so Autodesk can look into the problem so they can I have hotfix for it,

Thanks

Hi Steve,

This is indeed a bug. I am able to reproduce it on Inventor 2026, Fusion, and Autodesk Viewer. It seems that the shared SWX import component has trouble processing this particular SWX assembly. It has been reported as ATF-28573. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon.

Many thanks!

are you using STEP version 214? I think it should also translate properties.

I know the .stp file can also bring some property over but if you import direct or open direct from Inventor it save time not to export to .stp and reopen in Inventor.

When you open Solid Work file direct from Inventor you can get all the properties and color part view as it from Solid Work.

This is why Inventor try to allow direct open and also (place Imported CAD File) direct from assembly without convert to Inventor format.

This company I work they use Solid Work for 10 years but the software so bad slow. I start here 6 months ago and they see how Inventor respond to their work so they love and want me to switch to Inventor.

Thanks

Does the Solidworks files have Configurations or Model States where Inventor is only pulling the last active or default in?  We ran into that with some acquired files.  We are actually doing a full redraw of the files in Inventor so we have editable features.  Historically there's just been too many quirks that we weren't 100% confident in the models.

Regards

John,

I am switching a company using Solid Work for 10 years to Inventor so in the last few weeks I try so many different way to bring Solid Work over and since I try Inventor 2026 I think most of the conversion mess up with (2) things

1. Solid Work has feature call (Configuration) part and assembly like Inventor has (Model States) this is a problem for Inventor to bring over the right configuration.

2. Component pattern with part that has configuration.

Anyways I just try to point out what I see. But when I use Inventor 2025 it c

The assembly has the hex bolt configuration for toolbox.

I send the file to Autodesk they confirm this is a bug on Inventor 2026. This is not happen to Inventor 2025.

Thanks

Hi! The issue (ATF-28573) has been confirmed. The latest status shows that the fix depends on an external component. We are actively working with our vendor to resolve the issue. At the moment, we don't have a definite time frame when it will be fixed. I hope it will be resolved soon.

Many thanks!
