Offset Glitch

I have encountered some sort of glitch while using the offset command in Inventor 2018. The value I entered did not appear on the offset itself. The screencast video captures the problem I'm having. It doesn't happen all the time, and I can't figure out what variable changes comparing when it does or does not happen.

Have you noticed the problem only on this sketch, or only on this part, or in general?  Can you post the part here for others to try?

I've had this happen on a couple separate parts before. I can't specifically remember which ones, and I scrapped this last one, so unfortunately I can't share them. If I can replicate this issue I will share it.

@johnsonshiue I was referred to you by a coworker. I was wondering if you had any advice on this matter.

Hi! I vaguely remember seeing this behavior before. It has something to do with sketch snapping distance (Tools -> Document Settings -> Sketch). The required offset distance may be smaller than the snapping distance. Could you share the example here?

Many thanks!

I was able to get the glitch to happen again. I tried an offset of 2" on a circle with my snaps set to 1/16".  Attached is the sketch showing the issue I'm having.

I can reproduce the behavior you are seeing with Inventor 2018.3

Cannot reproduce on Inventor 2019.

By turning off grid snaps I was able to do an offset correctly, but this doesn't seem to address the root cause of the issue.

Hi Neil.Fortney,

johnsonshiue can likely speak to this best, but the conflict of behavior might be a bug ( meaning it's not working as designed) , but I suspect it is working as designed, but is just designed in a way that gives unexpected errant results, which technically isn't a bug, just a behavior that needs to redesigned. This issue was reported a few years back, but I don't know if it is slated to be fixed/changed/updated.

Being aware of the issue and toggling off the snap behavior when using offset is the best we can do at the current time, as far as I know. Most people do not use the snap feature, so they they never encounter this issue.

I hope this helps.
