Nominal hole diameter for thread

Hi,

I need to get a M8 x 1 thread in a 7mm nominal diameter hole.

By default, inventor uses a nominal diameter of 6.917mm for this thread and I'm not sure how to modify this.

I opened the file threads.xls in "S:\CAD\2 Inventor Default 2017\Design Data\XLS\en-US" and checked the values available. For a M8 x 1 thread/Internal/Minor Diam, the nominal hole diameter can be set between 6.917 and 7.153 but we don't have the choice in Inventor to set the actual value we want to use. The value used is by default the Min one, here 6.917 (see attachment).

How can we set the default values different from the minimal one? Do we need to modify the excel file or can we do it directly in Inventor?

Thank you,

Sylvain

I would like it so that when I create an M6 hole in a model I can then measure a continuous circle diameter of 6mm in a dwg and dxf. From your example I can see that if that setting does work it goes from 4.92 mm to 5 mm. In that case its probably not possible to show it as 6 mm as the continuous line. Then so be it, but I tested again and in my case I get 5 mm with "Minor thread diameter" and the same with "Tap drill diameter":

What I don't understand is why the outer circle dimensions as a radius.  It shouldn't, regardless of line type.  What object type is it when the drawing is exported to AutoCAD: arc, circle, or the dreaded segments?

Autocad identifies it as an Arc, this is defined in Inventor, we have a company style standard that defines this behavior. You can change those from Styles Editor but it seems that without saving and overwriting the current style any changes wont be shown on the drawings. This may be related to why "Minor diameter" and "Tap Drill diameter" also do not have any changes when modified. I would basically have to duplicate the style standard and define all the things there to see changes in how lines and dimensions are shown. Anyway, this isn't that important and I can work with what I've got.

Is it possible to make the "Tap Drill" option the default, instead of having to modify it through Document Settings? I may have missed it, but I do not see anything in Application Options to define this.

Thank you.

Hi,

If you change your template file with this modification, when you will create a new file, your configuration done in the template file will be the same as your new document.
