No bends found, nothing to compute

Dear All,

I have searched a long time to solve an part in to een flatt pattren. I can not find any function what wil result in an flatt pattren with the given boundaries. 

I'm only able to make an surface with the function loft. However if i translate it given the next fault: No bends found, nothing to compute.

Can somebody help me out?

Hi rubenjohannes,

I looks like you should be using the Lofted Flange command instead of just the Loft command.  The Lofted Flange will make sure there are bends that can be flattened.  For more info about how to use the Lofted Flange feature you can go to our help http://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2020/ENU/?guid=GUID-0B863F74-2F5A-4AED-BC63-035CEDAE5A77.

If you are not too concerned with accuracy, you could consider leveraging the Unwrap command to generate a flattened surface that can later be thickened (as a workaround).

Hi rebenjohannes,

After looking more into this part I can see why you are having issues.  This is a very complex part which means that our Flat Pattern tool may not be the best command for this part.  Like Dan mentioned you can use the Unwrap feature to get a good approximation of what the flat pattern can be.

If that won't work then we probably need some more information about this part to help further.  Can you explain how you are planning on manufacturing this part?  Our Flat Pattern feature is mostly used for more common sheet metal manufacturing methods (i.e. rollers, brake press) but doesn't really work for anything that you are wanting to stamp.

This part will be used for water displacement on a ship hull. With this form i want to push the water away from the hull. 

If i am able to have an Flat Pattern good workmanship can make this shape on the brake press. The form has to be 70 to 80% accurate the remaining will be formed when this part is welded to the ship structure since the structure is not an flatt surface anyway.  Thank you for the feedback, this will work for me.
