New materials in material assignment library

Hi everyone!

I am working as furniture constructor and there is one thing i would love if it is possible.

I would like to make new materials in Material Assignment library. I would love to have a selection of previously made materials so i can choose them quickly. Is it possible?

* First example - if i make a cabinet made of MDF. The frame and facade are covered with white laminate. Laminate looks similar, but they have different codes.

* Second example - cabinet is made of MDF but frame and facade are different. Frame is moisture resistant and facade is not.

So there is a choice in fill materials in boards - two similar MDF panels which looks same, but are different. One is moisture resistant and other is just plain.

Thanks for attention and i hope this is somehow possible.

HI!

You could copy materials in the library and change only the name, so you will have:

MDF - White Laminate

MDF - White Laminate Moisture Resistant

etc etc

OK! that is really easy way to do.

But is it possible to add this copied material different design as well?

When i want black laminate for my MDF components. I make copy of white laminate, and i want to change design but inventor does not have it in selection. Is it possible to change design?

Thanks for answer!

Create

MDF White ....

and

MDF Black...

I believe all that different "materials" will have a different stock number anyway, so it's better to treat them as a different materials.

Note: if you only change the appearance using the same material, is like you cover a White MDF with Black paint, and this is not your case.

When you say change design.... you mean change Material color, right?

So... Copy the material, edit properties (Change name, color, luminance, etc etc... Perhaps physical properties if you have it and you need to do FEA analysis on the model)... and then,  save it, and add it to the wood library.

Tip:

Is a lot easier to duplicate a similar material and edit it, than create a new one from the scratch...

Check it here how to do it:
