New discussion group security

I was on vacation for a little while. Come back and learn that my password (6 characters with numbers) is no good anymore. Security now requires "Passwords must be 8-12 characters, 1 capital letter, and 1 numeral". I am sorry for the language but this is NUTS. Each web site tries to outpassword the next. Who can remember all the passwords? And what for? Is somebody going to spend time to crack 6 letter password and vote for the wrong Inventor feature? My bank recently told me that ATM passcode can be max 4 numbers and they don't see any security risk in that.

It's really dumb when you cannot use Internet Explorer WITH
the user name and password. So, there is NO security on the newsgroup
anyway.

I remember my first flight after 9/11. After passing through
the armed National Guard patrols, and suffering through a long and highly
extensive security search, which included losing my wallet temporarily after an
elderly lady accidentally walked off with my wallet thinking it was her
husband's, I finally "passed all tests". Then, walking through the "secure" side
of the airport, at one bar and restaurant, I observed a cook standing at the bar
with a 10 inch butcher knife in his hand...... and the security "fear" persists
today. We are no more safe on the airlines today, than we were then, even after
spending billions and billions of dollars, losing our freedoms, and embracing
Homeland Security for the illusion of safety.

I'm glad I can still walk the streets at night just like my
parents did in the 30s, 40s and 50s, because I don't walk with fear in my
heart.

The 'new release' newsgroup, in my opinion, is similar to what is going on with Inventor, new design, new features, but poorly executed. So, some of the stuff doesn't work.

Be glad Adesk has not found a way to make us pay for the newsgroup, because then there would be a drive to come up with even more new features next year. And every year the newsgroups would be slower.

The password nonsense should have been nipped in the bud by any grownup involved.

Come on Adesk, don't tell me you let the post-teens dudes do their thing unsupervised?

In the new topic, "Discussion Group Status - Updates for Known & Resolved Issues" it points to the Help Section which says,

"2. Why can't I stay signed in?
Cookies are required to maintain a signed in state. Be sure that cookies are enabled in your browser. "

I -do- have cookies enabled in my browser, and they work on lots of other sites that I use every day. But, this forum will not keep me logged in. I went through yesterday and cleaned out any autodesk related cookies on my system, and tried again, but it still doesn't "Remember Me". And, it has set several Autodesk cookies... that apparently don't work.

One thing that I've liked better about Inventor than SolidWorks is that in my opinion, Inventor had a better, unified, user forum. SolidWorks seemed to have several forums scattered all over, but not a single go-to. (That may have changed, I haven't used SW in over a year.) But, with such poor planning, and poor implementation of this forum there's already been the threat of abandonment and forking. It would be a pity if all the knowledgeable Inventor users were scattered among a myriad of lesser forums simply because Autodesk was so irresponsible in their approach to this upgrade.

Couldn't help but quote Benjamin Franklin
on this one.

"Any society willing to give up a little
freedom for a little safety will loose both and deserve
neither."
