Hi

I would like to know is it possible in Inventor to nest the sheet metal parts and create CNC file for cut in the Plasma machine.

If yes, please guide me with the steps.

Hi!

I believe there are quite a few videos capturing the workflows. Please take a look.

@lkirit2000 ,
In addition to the links shared by Johnson, you can also access Inventor Nesting content from past Autodesk University classes here:

  1. All You Do in One Platform—CAD to Nesting to CAM in Inventor (AU2019)
  2. Nesting Utility Hands-On (AU2018)

What is the make and model of your plasma machine?

Check out this page to determine if our post library already has an appropriate postprocessor for your machine - https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autodesk-hsm/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Req...

@lkirit2000 ,

Thanks for sharing. Can you specify which exact model of the HyCut series you are using?

Once you have created a Nest using Inventor Nesting, you can either export it as 'DXF' or generate a 2D profile toolpath for your plasma machine. A postprocessor is a piece of software that takes this toolpath and converts it to the NC file that can be read by your machine's controller to drive the equipment.

For some machines, loading a simple DXF file is sufficient and the controller can generate cutting instructions (NC program). And in other scenarios, the toolpath is converted to NC program in a CAM software and the NC file is loaded on the controller without any additional post processing at the machine.

Please refer to this thread for more info on a compatible postprocessor for a HyCut CNC Plasma - https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-manufacture/chinese-cnc-plasma-help-with-finding-post-proc...

I will also pass this onto our internal team of postprocessor experts.
