Link parameters in derived parts

Hello everyone, I've moved over from Solidworks in my previous job to using Inventor recently. Recently I prepared my first .idw drawings of a small assembly where one of the parts in the assembly was derived from another one of them.

I linked a length parameter in the original to the description in the iproperties. However, I wasn't able to retrieve that same property in the derived part. Is there any way to do so? I did it so that the description in the .idw would update if I changed the length of the extrusion.

I hope my question was clear enough, and for reference I was using this video as a guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hJL_A5U5o0&t=493s

The 2 parts in question were simply angled brackets, where one was mirrored off the other.

You just need to edit the derived part and share the parameter you require.

Hi! Open the derived part and go to Parameters table -> find the linked parameter -> check "Export" in the far right column. Then the parameter value will become an associative iProperty.

Many thanks!

Hi all, what I did was add in a parameter in the derived part and linked it to the dimension on the part, so that when I change the original, the length parameter in the derived part would be updated too. Thanks for all your input!
