Need help with constraints on Autodesk

Hi everyone,

I'm a member of my school's robotics team and we need to learn how to use Autodesk Inventor for VEX.

I'm going through the tutorial that was given to me and I'm currently stuck on an issue. In Video Six of this link:

http://curriculum.vexrobotics.com/curriculum/intro-to-autodesk-inventor/building-the-clawbot

The tutor is teaching me how to attach a driveshaft and a collar. I followed all the steps that was given to me and the problem I am having is that when I apply an angle constraint between the face of the shaft and the face on the collar (shown around 1:40), the shaft no no longer rotates. In the end of the video, he shows that he can still move the shaft but I can't.

Any potential fixes?

Sorry in advance for not uploading the video as a file; said the content type didn't match the extension for some reason. Hopefully the link is functional for you all.

Thanks!

614kb?  Doesn't that strike you as odd?

An assembly without parts (*.ipt files) is useless.

project files.

there is one more folder that should be within the VEX_KOP unzipped folder called "Motion"

that folder is way too big to upload apparently so I split it up into two individual zipped folders

the original project name is called VEX_KOP

There are only 13 files referenced by your assembly - yet you attached 4 million 2 hundred and 33 files (give or take a few)?

None of the parts in your assembly is Grounded?

Can you ask your instructor to join this discussion?

I can't. My robotics team hasn't ever used any sort of digital 3D modeling program like Inventor to build our bots...we normally just draw out a general idea then get straight to work with the actual pieces.

We literally went into Inventor with no instructor on it and so I am limited to the few tutorials online.

I apologize for whatever I am doing wrong that should actually be fairly easy. Again, I am very new to Inventor (and 3D modeling in general).

I am currently watching videos from this link to build the robot and it may help you to help me: http://curriculum.vexrobotics.com/curriculum/intro-to-autodesk-inventor/building-the-clawbot

I attached corrected assembly above.

But I doubt you will get very far with this project in Inventor without an instructor's assistance.

Inventor is a professional program and deserves (requires?) a professional level of instruction.

As you go through the videos post back at each step that you get stuck on.

Include the timestep in the video.

Thank you so much for your help.

Is it possible that you explain to me what you did?

Do all of the parts have to be grounded? Is that as simple as right clocking on the part and selecting Grounded?

also, what was your workflow for getting the axle and collar to rotate after constraining the 2?

I've had the similar problem as the original poster of this problem.

No, in fact a mechanism will not work if all parts are grounded.

Usually at least one part in any assembly or sub-assembly is grounded.

Hi Kevin,

I suspect you may have adaptive part in the assembly. As a result, the part may not move or rotate as freely as it should. Could you share the files so we can comment further?

Many thanks!

Hi JD and Justin...I know this post is old but I had similar issue.  To get the wheel assembly to rotate I grounded the base frame elements. maybe its just a quick fix..i don't know but its good for now. I am just hoping I can now align the gears according to the video.
