Need help regarding "Resolve Link" pops up again and again for Inventor Assembly

Dear All,

Please help me for finding solution for "Resolve Link" issue in Inventor Assembly file.

I am using Inventor 2017

I receive any assignment from my customer from Vault because they uses Vault and every time they do check out the files from vault and share with

me for modification where as I only use Inventor and not uses Vault.

What happens if I open any assembly "Resolve Link" Pops up comes and asks found/redirect the missing part/sub assembly to open the assembly file.

So I give the desired path to find the missing part/assembly and I able to open the assembly after giving lots of path for resolving the link. Once I open the assembly successfully  by fiving all paths I saves the assembly and closes the Inventor. Problem starts after this!!!

What happens is when after some time or next day if I open the same assembly which I just saved with all paths it again ask to "Resolve Link" and again I have to follow same procedure to open this assembly and spent time again to solve the same problem which is not good.

I do not understand where is the problem because normally I receive assembly which having lots of subpart and sub assembly in different folders and every time I have to spent time to resolve the link by giving path though I already set in last save. It is due to vault? Does I should ask my customer to use specific setting while check out the file and sharing the data. Or I am missing any setting in Project file or Option file. Please guide.

I hope I describe my problem correctly to understand!!

Thank you in advance and best regards,

Hi! It sounds like that you did not activate the proper project file. There are two things to check. Go to Project dialog and look at the active project. Check Workspace and "Libraries folder paths. Are the folder paths reasonable? Check Options -> Use Unique File Name. Is it set to yes?

Many thanks!

Just because you resolved the issue to get the model opened, the next time you open the model, the issue is still there.  You haven't resolved it all.  You only provided a band-aid fix for it.  As @johnsonshiue pointed out you need to update you project file.

Here are some articles that you should review..

Hi! Some people are confused by on Inventor project works. It does not have to be confusing. Inventor Project, though options rich, is quite accommodating. It helps you define your working folders for a given project in a relative path fashion. So, if you move the entire project from one folder to another, everything should be resolved correctly.

The behavior you are describing sounds like either the project setting is not right or the correct project file is not activated. Essentially, Inventor is trying to find files which do not exist in the project defined folders. If you don't mind, you could take a snapshot of the project dialog showing the settings associated to your project. Also show where the files are located, we should be able to find out where the problem is.

Many thanks!
