Multipage drawing template with predefined views

Is there a way to create a multi page drawing template with pre-populated views on certain pages?

What I am after is with my assembly open > create a new drawing using this template and those views on multiple pages are there in position, scale and view.

I understand that sections and details are not possible due to the sketch dependency to create this view.

I keep trying but only the active sheet views get populated when creating a new drawing using this template.

This should get you close.

  1. Open a new drawing file in Inventor and create the views that you want to use on each page. Arrange the views on their respective pages as you want them to appear in the final template.

  2. Save the drawing file as an Inventor Drawing Template (.idw) file. To do this, go to File > Save As, select "Inventor Drawing Template" as the file type, and give the template a name.

  3. Close the drawing file.

  4. Open the Assembly file that you want to use with the template.

  5. Create a new drawing file using the template you just created. To do this, go to File > New > Drawing, and select the template you just created from the list of available templates.

  6. When the new drawing file opens, you should see that the views you created in the template have been added to the appropriate pages. The views will be positioned, scaled, and oriented as they were in the template.

I made the template exactly as shown in the step outline above and I reviewed the link as well.

When I create a new drawing from the assembly it prompts for the reference assembly for each page that has a pre-defined view like it is working but when it completes the views are not there.  Nothing in the feature tree.

BTW Inventor 2020 if it makes a difference.

Hi! I don't see a workflow here. You cannot create a drawing template with pre-defined views. You will need to use a Sheet Format to select a model source and then the views will be populated based on the Sheet Format.

Many thanks!

What do you mean when you say "I don't see a workflow here"?

"You cannot create a drawing template with pre-defined views".  The posts above contradict that.

Additionally, I have been able to but it will only populate views on the page I had active when creating the template.

I don't have time to test things out right now.  I'll keep trying and report back.

There is a sort of way to do this (automatic multiple file single page, not multiple page) in the Mold Design environment but unfortunately this has never made it into the main assembly environment. It is not 100% automatic (manual post processing is required) but it is impressive.  Just dreaming...

Okay.  So you are clarifying that multipage pre-defined drawing views does not work.

That matches what I see.  Thanks for the help.
