Moving components from one assembly model to another

Good Day all,

my question for today. I use many sub-assemblies in creating my final assembly models. It has proven an efficient work flow. On occasion however, I find that I have included  parts and smaller sub-assemblies in one model that I would like to move to another model. Is there any way of moving part and sub assemblies from one model to another from the assembly model containing all the sub assemblies? Short of deleting them from one model, then adding them to another. I would like to move say (sub-assy 1) from (sub-assy A) to (sub-assy B) within the final assembly model along with it's constraints. I'm hoping there is a tool for this and it doesn't involve writing some sort of ilogic program to do it.

Thanks for you time. Not holding my breath on this one. 😉

Try dragging the parts from one sub to the other in the top-level assembly browser.  You may need to make an intermediate stop in the top level.

Also try selecting all the components in the source sub, Ctrl-X, opening the 2nd sub and Ctrl-V.  Use the standard cut-copy-paste functions.

Sounds like drag and drop should work.

You will get a warning that some constraints may be lost, but in my experience I almost never lose any constraints and if I do - they are simple to recreate (the entire constraint structure isn't lost, generally only logical stuff).

One thing I would like to add to this conversation...  If you have any content center parts in your assembly that are from the tube and pipe section of content center you will be unable to drag them to another location in the Inventor browser tree if their icon is shown as a blue tee in the browser.

Thanks for the quick replies,

So the drag and drop or copy/cut paste solution will work while I am inside the model that contains all the sub-assemblies? Or would I need to have the sub-assembly models open as well in order to do this. Or multiple instances of Inventor open? Guess I'll try tomorrow as I have a specific assembly model in mind. Again thanks for the quick replies.
