Move a Derived Part

Hello all, 

 

I am a Solidworks user stuck in a company that has decieded my division will go 3D with Inventor.  Most of my experience transfers over fine.  However I am stuck trying to figure out how to properly place a derived part.  I can place the part, but I can't get it exactly where I need it.  In Solidworks, you can constrain derived parts to get them where you need them.  Is there anyway to do this in Inventor?

 

I need to do a boolean.

Are you talking about in an assembly or in a part file itself?  If in a part you can use the move/rotate body command.  Also when posting always indicate what version of Inventor you're using so we can offer the best workflow for you.

I am using Inventor 2015 Pro. I am refering to in the part file. I have attempted to use the move/rotate command, but the location and angle I need it at goes on in decimals forever. I would rather constrain it and have it exact.

Why do you need to move it in the part file?

Can you please post the ipt file along with a description of why you need to move the features at all?

 

Typically you can edit the sketches to change where the geometry is located with respect to the origin point/planes or you can redefine the sketch to pick a new plane,etc.. but I don't understand why you would need to rotate anything on an angle with decimals forever so its hard to recommend the right process

I need to move it to do a boolean and remove its (the inserted part) geometry from the main part file. A combine where it removes material instead of adding material.  I need to place four of them.  I can't post the file I am working on, but I'll see if I can rig an example.  

 

Because I need to place 4 of them rigging the orgin would be undesirable long term with more configurations it would make a mess.  I'll design an example file though.  Just a few minutes.

I attched some example files.  I need to place the cut file along the surface, centered on the edge with a 12" offset along the pitch. I also need the bottom of the cut file to be flush with the slope so it cuts properly.  Cut file is an example.  My actual file is more complicated. Part locations.png

I'm to busy to pay enough attention to figure out what you are really trying to do..

Hi More8927,

 

You might just create an assembly, costrain the cut part where needed, and then derive the assembly into a single part file and use the Subtract option to cut those parts away from the block.
