Mold design - Fusion360-Boundary Fill – Inventor command

Hi

iam working with a mold design and uses fusion360 for checking the mold, by using Boundary Fill.

I can read that inventor has a similar function, almost, but I cannot get it to work.

I have created a model example for test purposes.

Can somebody try to show the inventor type for doing the same, like Boundary Fill from Fusion360

 

Iam enclosed the mold tool, and the item I need to create.

Hi

Model 3D -> Surface -> Sculpt.

This is almost the same tool, just has a different name.

But your files have solid bodies, so I don't know why you want to use those commands.

Hi Henrik,

 

As Kacper already mentioned, indeed Inventor Sculpt is quite similar to Fusion Boundary Fill. The difference is in the way to select the resultant volumes. Fusion's workflow is more intuitive, while you will need to flip tool direction in order to get the desirable volumes.

I think another hurdle you may encounter in Inventor on this workflow is about the ability to "borrow" or "reuse" geometry from another part. In Fusion, you may simply select geometry from different components as long as they are all included in the same design. In Inventor, you will need to use "Copy Object" (Modify -> Copy Object) to select the geometry from another part. Or you will need to derive the other part (relocate the body accordingly).

After the geometry is obtained, you may use Sculpt command to define volumes.

Hi

 

The purpose for using boundary fill, I like to make a control for right tool design.

 

Inventor do not have same function as Fusion360 as I see it, in fusion360 just open the tool, select boundary fill a pick the handle for empty aery, and at Mold part I create.

To do this, just use the Combine command (the Sculpt / Boundary Fill tools are for more advanced work).

For more complex shapes, Inventor has an entire module dedicated to mold design, which includes many tools that automate the creation of much more complex designs.

 

The key question is - are you trying to achieve some design goal or are you trying to compare sets of commands in software?

Hi Kacper

 

I know about the fantastic Mold model, and iam using this, but sometimes

I need to modify the outcome from the Mold model; therefore, I like to check if item still is as I like.

That’s why aim using boundary fill, just to be sure, “my way of working”.

This example is a simple one just for understanding. I do have much more complex parts iam creating with the

Mold from inventor. The boundary fill from fusion360 is a awesome tool.
