Modeling a plastic part

Hi all,

I am trying to model a plastic part, no drawing available, so that we can tweak it and call it our own, then send it out to get reproduced. Having a little trouble on how to go about it though . This is a bracket meant to stiffen the back legs of a chair with the long edge going down the leg and the stubby end going to the seat.

I thought about using the loft tool with a base section, curved section, and upright section. Or make a giant box and chip away at it with  extrusions and work planes.  The problem I think I will run into is all the ribbing on the back. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to achieve this look? I am going home tonight and researching the draft tool. I haven't found much else yet using the search function. I will upload a .ipt. tomorrow when I try again. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you and have a good night.

Hi

It seems like you want to do everything at once.
Two extrusions of individual segments in different directions are a good idea.

The next one will be Shell and next Extrusions (or Boss feature).

Finally, you will add the ribs.

Hi! To add to Kacper's suggestion, I would start with an L-shaped extrusion. Then use Bend Part command to bend the vertical segment. Add more detail geometry.

Many thanks!

Hey there. Thank you for the reply. I was able to get the curve faces using work axis's. I am trying to do the ribs now. Is there a reason why the one rib wont extrude to join the face like the others? Thanks for any help. Have a great day.

Hi!

Since ribs need well defined boundaries, i suggest you create the ribs before the Castles (Boss)... but yes, is possible.

Also, adjust the sketches better...

Hi there. Thank you for the reply. I was just experimenting to try and figure it out in the last post. Sorry if it was poorly dimensioned. The ribbing came in once I deleted the bosses first.

I was trying to recreate what you did in the model tree. Can you elaborate on how you got the ribbing to work? I was using extrude_(to next) when I was doing it to create ribs and bosses. And what are the loft (join) and splits for?

Thank you for all of your help thus far.
