Missing Assembly Options when Importing Step File

Hello, Long time Revit user, new to inventor (just using it to create families from .STEP files recieved from clients).

I am trying to import a STEP file as an assembly so I can Simplify it and Export it to a Revit family, but it appears to be inserting it as a part I think. I followed the same workflow with a STEP file that I had work correctly and compared the import options, and it is missing the drop down box for Assembly Options.

Am I missing a step or is there something I need to do to the STEP file before I try the import? It has been a few months since I have had to do this so I do not 100% remember if I am skipping a step.

I wonder if the second one is just a surface model?

Perhaps it lacks multiple bodies, compared to another which can be split into several layers.

Is there anything that I can do to Un-Surfacize it? I need to be able to export it to Revit but the option is Greyed out and the BIM Environment button doesnt work.

I am not 100% sure as to what this means, is there something I can do to i guess rectify it?

It means your STEP contain only 1 solid body or 1 part.

So 1 part is not an assembly.

Probably only import it as a single part, split the solid into multiple, then use Make Components to generate multiple files.

Some STEP files are imported as Multisolid.

You can turn this multi solid into an assembly.

Go to MANGE and select Make Component

This did it for me! Thanks a bunch! Importing it then making it a component works - I did not know that was a feature (new to Inventor)

Ah thanks for showing me where that was! That solved my issue - I got the Revit family in the end!
