Mirrored Part: Doesn't have any parameters and rules

Dear colleagues!

I faced a problem when tried to "Mirror" my iLogic parts/assemblies

So, if I have rules and parameters in original elements, I don't have them on the "mirrored" parts!

I have, let's say, solution for this problem (Just do circular pattern) - but this is not correct solution

There are two screenshots: 1 - Original part, 2 - Mirrored part

Trying to revive a dead thread, I have created new sheet metal templates for my company that use several rules to automate our design process.  We also have assembly templates with rules for the same reason.  We have one person who used to mirror subassemblies frequently to reduce design time and this used to duplicate the parameters and rules from the original into the mirrored part.  As of a couple days ago when we updated some of the rule code, the mirror function for him no longer duplicates the parameters and rules.

Another coworker somehow still has the ability to mirror sub-assemblies and they retain the parameters and irules of the parts.  Does anyone have an idea as to why this would stop working or why one machine does what apparently Inventor should not be doing?  We are using 2020 Professional.

Hi Zackery,

I am not aware of an issue like this. The only possibility I can think of is that the parts were being "reused" as opposed to "created new." I am not sure which is which on your end.

Another option is to use Mirror feature in the part -> whole body -> remove original body. In this way, all the parameters and features are retained but only the body flips to the other side.

Please feel free to share an example that is not working desirably. The forum experts can help take a further look.

Sounds to me like a template problem.  When mirroring, Inventor creates a derived part from the original, I think using the Standard.ipt/Standard.iam templates from the default location specified in App Options or active project.

Your co-workers' different experiences indicates to me that one is getting the rules and parameters through their Standard template(s), while the other is accessing generic Standard templates.

I have attached a screen recording of myself trying to mirror a sub-assembly.  The video shows the assembly rules and the part rules, but when the assembly is mirrored, none of those rules come through.  On my co-workers machine, when he follows the same process I did in this recording his assembly and parts all share the same rules as the original files.

I had thought of this, but didn't look too much into it because we all pull our templates and project files from the same location in Vault.  On your suggestion I checked his machine and our App Options are identical and we are using the same version of the .ipj project file from Vault.

The difference is when I create a new assembly via the title bar drop down, my assembly file does not have any of the rules that our template has.  When my coworker does the same thing, his comes in as our correct assembly template.

We then tested the same thing with the Part file from the title bar drop down and neither of our new parts had the rules from the correct template, yet when he mirrors his sub-assemblies the parts do retain the proper rules.

For more information our App Options point to the default Public Docs templates file location, but our .ipj project file uses a Vault location as the default templates folder.

Hi! Besides template, another possibility is the iLogic security setting on your machine. Go to Tools -> Options -> expand the panel -> iLogic Options -> iLogic Security Settings -> Is the box at the top checked?

My current settings for iLogic Security do not have the box checked for "Inspect rules for malicious code".
