Minimum distance between parts not working correctly

Hi,

I found a strange behaviour when measuring between parts. I can not share the files that I'm using but I'm attaching some images.

The first one is called "Minimum1" is a measurement between faces and the second one called "Minimum2" is the result of measure between parts. Please take a look, it doesn't make sense...

Best.

Can you explain what doesn't make sense about that to you?

Is that an assembly or a part?

Everything looks normal to me.  What isn't normal about what you posted?  I'm confused!!!  Smiley Surprised

Do you have an image of what you perceive to be normal?

Maybe I'm abnormal, but what the original poster is trying to say is why is the minimum distance between the parts greater than the minimum distance between the faces belonging to the 2 parts. They should be at the very minimum the same or the distance between 2 faces should be greater, depending on which face of the part you chose.

If that is what the OP is saying, fine.  I get that, but in his pics, he is measuring to two completely different points.

The one would be longer because it is measuring across an angle.  To a different part on top of it.

In my pics below I did what the OP did, and my minimum measurements are not completely the same, but they are darn close.

regardless, the minimum distance between 2 parts should always be less than (or the same) the distance between faces belonging to the 2 separate  parts, just as is the case in your example, unless my logical reasoning or understanding is flawed. Having said that I have been feeling dizzy since yesterday,

Hi! It could be a bug in Minimum Distance workflow. It is possible Inventor choose the wrong reference faces. Or, there is geometry hiding in the parts. Without an example. there isn't much we can do. Please share the files, the two parts of interest directly with me (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com).

Many thanks!
