midsurface rebuild error

Hi All,

Check out the error in the image below, triggered by assembly edits and rebuild all in Inventor 2019.  I cant seem to get rid of the error.  Any suggestions?

Assembly is attached, open "100034-48Copy.iam".

Thanks in advance.

Hi Aaron,

The error message indicates the end treatments fail. It is unclear to me why they failed. I think the project team needs to look into it further.

Many thanks!

Hi @johnsonshiue , I'm just curious if the project team was able to figure out this issue with this assembly?

Hi Aaron,

I did forward this issue to the project team back in mid Dec. But, I have not heard any update yet. It is still being investigated. We just came back from the holiday and also our priority right now is on the new developing release at the moment. I am sorry for the delay.

Many thanks!

Hello Aaron,

I used the dataset you provided, trying to find where problem is, I delete piece by piece and when I delete all, the problem is still there. So it is not related to Frame Generator. I will let developers look, but my primary focus is Frame Generator that I am not currently able to help you with. The reference to MidSurface entity still required even there is no compnent.

Hello @imajar,

It seems the data has corrupted with some surface body missing which probably introduced by broken simulation recipes or any other 3rd party addins.

The workaround here, create a new assembly and copy all leaf components, paste in this new assembly and then delete the original one in the local drive, rename the newly created one as original one.

Hope it helps!

Hi @Xun.Zhang, Thank you for looking at this.

The only 3rd part add in I used was Inventor Nastran - which does have a midsurface feature.  Would it be possible to send this to the Inventor Nastran team to take a look?

I could not figure out how to make your suggestion work to resolve the problem - if I copy and paste the components into another assembly, the frame generator link is lost and I cannot make any more frame generator changes.  Is that right?  Or is there a special way of copying the data that keeps the frame generator stuff connected?

Thanks!

Any comment @Xun.Zhang , @jan_priban , or @johnsonshiue?

I'm trying to help you make Inventor better and I feel like I'm being ignored.

A possible cause for the error:

An Inventor Nastran analysis has been created, and midsurfaces within this Nastran analysis have been corrupted.

The result of this is, that the part can not be edited, because of the midsurface rebuild error message prevents it.

To solve the issue, open the associated Nastran analysis, and delete all faulty midsurfaces.

I have the same problem occurring in my assembly. The problem still persists even though I have deleted all the associated files in Nastran. You can work through it. But having the error message pop up even though there is no associated mid-surface is really frustrating.

Would really appreciate this problem being solved.

@johnsonshiue any new information. this topic is 5 years old. I have the same problem with midsurfaces that fails. Nastran and inventor needs to be evaluated since it is so much bugs in it.
in this picture midsurface that have been deleted is still as non-selectable surfaces and they are deleted in nastran.

If you delete midsurfaces in the model, but not in the Nastran analysis/structural analysis, this will likely cause the error.

You have to access Nastran in the assembly/part where midsurfaces were originally applied, and delete them there if it has errors.

The easiest would be to delete all analysis' which have been generated for the assembly/part.

Any news about my problem? I have deleted all nastran analysis and all from the model in nastran but I have the same problem with could not build this midsurface. This error makes my drawing not update, I got problem with update of the model and are only able to press accept and not solve this issue. It is really frustrating that issues like these are not solved in 5 years and several releases... Nastran should not ruin the assembly. midsurfaces shall only be in nastran module, not been search for in the assembly and ruin it.
