Mass on Drawing

Inventor 2022, what is finally the best way to have a mass notification on a drawing that updates automatically.

Just what you expect from a modern package like Inventor.
Is it still the best option to use code to create an iProperty for this so as not to get the unnecessary question every time whether something should be saved that has not been changed?

By automatic updating I mean that when the component is changed, the Mass on the drawing changes too and no N/A is shown.
As far as I tried, that N/A cannot be removed properly in an automatic way.
With code opening the component from the drawing and update the Mass is an option but it goes a bit too far for me, especially when it concerns a heavy assembly.
I've tried lots of things in an Event Trigger to get things updated, but what I don't want are Rules in Event Triggers that ask if something should be saved that hasn't changed.

It seems simple but also a thing, as it turns out.
I hope I'm overlooking something.

I did James, no difference in the behavior regarding 'N/A'.

Hi! Are these iPart/iAssembly member files? If yes, you will need to open the iPart/iAssembly factory files and do Rebuild All -> generate all members.

For regular Part or Assembly, you will need to trigger some change (Manage -> Rebuild All) in order to save. Enabling the option James mention will not automatically update mass prop for the Part or the Assembly referenced in a drawing.

I'm talking about regular Parts and Assemblies.

What's the best way if we want to automatically  update the Mass on a drawing so there could never be a misunderstanding when someone forgets to update the component?

Hi! The App option will help ensure the mass prop is up-to-date in the future. But, for existing files, you will probably need to use Task Scheduler -> Migrate/Update Design task. The mass prop will be saved along with the file save (the App option enabled).

I still use the custom iProperties and an iLogic rule to save the mass properties value and display that custom property instead of the Inventor.Mass property as it still frequently fails with a "N/A" and just won't clear.  You're probably still safe running with the custom iProperty for now.

Thank you both for your response and advice.

It takes quite some effort to simply want to have the weight on a drawing.
Strange as the program is very clear when the weight has been manually overwritten.
Then why the difficulty, do I miss the underlying thoughts or has it just never been picked up properly?

Anyway, for normal Parts and Assemblies I think I've managed to keep the weight up to date with a few rebuild commands.
It seems to me to be stable with what I have tested, hereby the invitation to try and test it.

See two iLogic rules as an attachment, it goes without saying:
Place rule 'Update_All_Documents_Before_Save_Document' as event for 'All Document' under 'Before Save Document'.
Set rule 'Update' as External Rule so that the former rule can access it.

I have successfully tested both with and without Vault.
Criteria is, besides that the weight is displayed correctly, a saved drawing must be able to be opened and closed without being notified whether something needs to be updated.
Related to this, a drawing must be able to be edited and saved independently, without having to check out the model.

Let me know how or what.
I'm curious if there are methods where this doesn't work, Frame Generator for example?

I almost forgot to mention that I checked 'Application Options-General-Update physical properties on save-Parts and Assemblies'.
Also, 'Applications Options-Save-Mass Property Update-Default Condition-Save'.
The first option allows for good testing, the second option I'm not sure exactly what it does, anyone?

1 How can we get area and mass of ipart or assembly in table in drawing?

We have many iparts and writing it non automatically is very difficult/

Is there any non Ilogic or non Macro way?

2 How can we change precision of <Mass> and <Surface> links in drawing?

3 Hpw can we put link to any dimension from this model/assembly or other to outside dimension?
