mass of one material in an assembly of multiple materials

So If I have a big assembly full of parts with lots of different materials, is there a way to find the mass of one specific material.

ex. If I had an assembly that was a watch, is there a way to find the mass of just stainless steel in the full assembly?

Hi!

No... and Yes!!

In "normal mode " you can´t do this, because Inventor will sum the mass of all the elements in the assembly, but...

You can make a "New level of detail" and suppress all the elements you don't want to sum, the parts with all other materials, so you will have one "temporary" new assembly composed only with the elements you need to  count.

Go to Assembly iProperties, and click "UPDATE"

In the warning box, read carefully, you will want o choose "NO"

and that's it, you will have the mass from all the parts inside this "Level of detail"

Note... you can have several levels of details with different materials, and you can rename them to find them easier. Every time you add a part, be shure you redefine these levels of detail, because this is a manual process.

When you back to the Master level of detail you will have again all the mass of the assembly.

There's also other ways to accomplish that, but there all manual processes.
