MAKING A HOLE ON CURVED SURFACE

Hi Experts

INV 2018

What is the best approach in inventor to make a hole on a curved surface ?

The process of making this part will be like, I will laser cut a part with the hole and roll it to required radius.

I could have used the unfold refold option for a folded part, but here the part will be rolled .

Any thoughts ?

In the sheet metal environment use cut and check the cut normal box. This will give you perpendicular edges. Unfold/refold will work but is less robust and you can't use existing sketches

Use iLogic Copy? Please consider voting for this long overdue idea (not mine):https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/string-replace-for-ilogic-design-copy/idi-p/3821399

Another possibility, one which I don't normally recommend, is to create the holes in the flat piece before it is rolled.  See the attached file (2018 format).

Hi! There might be multiple ways to get the desirable holes. For example, you could Thicken -> Intersect from outside and then inside. Please share the example file here. Forum experts can help take a further look.

Many thanks!
