Making a case for a pattern that doesn't do anything.

I have a part that requires two separate patterns to achieve the overall bolt pattern.

Since the parts are derived from bodies in a master part, it makes sense to use the same derived sketch to define all of the cuts.

This means that the first pattern doesn't actually do anything in this part, it's only the second pattern that changes the geometry.

I think Inventor should ignore the issues with the first pattern, if the second makes sense. In fact, you should even be able to execute the cut command without any changes to the body, if a pattern completes the intent later on.

I figured out a bit of a work around.

I just needed to give the pattern purpose by adding something for it to cut.
