I am linking a model to an excel spreadsheet. Normally you would specify what cell on the first sheet (Sheet1) to start in. I have been told that you can link to other sheets in the workbook as well. Is this possible? I have tried, but have not been successful. If it is possible, how is it done?
Solved! Go to Solution.
If you are talking about linking one page in an excel spread sheet to another page in the spread sheet file, yes that can be done.
If that is what you are talking about see the following link.
No, this is not what I was talking about. When you link an Inventor model, whether a part or an assembly, to an excel spreadsheet, you must specify what cell your table starts in (for example C3). Inventor assumes that this cell is on sheet1 of the spreadsheet. I want the link from Inventor to look at a different sheet for the table (for example Sheet2!C3). I have tried this type of reference when linking to the spreadsheet, but it does not seem to work.
Similar, I have done what you are talking about in other CAD programs and it has worked.
But with that said the cell that the CAD program referenced on the spread sheet was on sheet 1
which automatically referenced the cell on the subsiquent sheet. Which might be what you will have to do.
In MDT, it was possible to link to a specific cell in a specific sheet in a workbook. See attachment. I just want to be able to do the same thing in Inventor. This would make it possible to have a separate sheet in a workbook for each part in an assembly and to link directly to a table in the appropriate sheet for each part. Is this possible in Inventor?? If not, I know that I can have tables for each part starting in different cells on the first sheet (i.e. Part 1, cell A1; Part 2, cell F1; Part 3, cell K1 etc.). It is just easier to keep all information for a specific part on the same sheet.
Inventor will only link to the first sheet (sheet 1) of a excel workbook
I use workbooks with many tabs (sheets) each containing cells which the user inputs or selects values which drive the inventor model.
I use sheet 1 of the workbook for Inventor data and send the values from the other sheets to this first sheet.
Effectively sheet1 is just a "dump" for the data
Thank you. This makes sense and is what I have been doing as well. I had been told by someone else (without any documentation) that what I am asking is possible, but I could not discover how. This verifies that is because it is not possible.
