Linking properties to general table columns?

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

I am trying to set up tables in idw so the information is automatically taken from iproperties.

Is it possible to link up tabs in the iproperties of idw as column in a general table.

Now I see no properties when I click on the column selector after creating general table or from style manager.

Inputs would be appreciated.

Thanks!

@mcgyvr

Just trying to add information via iproperties, making adding information a bit streamlined .

I am afraid we are using 2014.

So I guess its steered from only custom properties, linking to other tabs in iproperties is not achievable as a straightforward function?

@Anonymous I still don't have a clear understanding of what you are really trying to do as you haven't provided sufficient information yet IMO..

But you can show any iproperty information in a drawing if you want.. it could be custom or it could be standard iproperty fields..

If you would please take a few minutes and write complete/concise/detailed sentences describing exactly what you "want" to do we can tell you if its possible..

Tell me exactly what your process will be for a new drawing.. tell me what your process will be when that drawing is updated and soem new row is needed..

Tell me exactly where you intend to keep this data in the iproperties..

But there is currently no way to have iproperty data shown directly in a table built using Inventors General Table functionality.. (maybe via ilogic but lets get a clear description of your needs first before trying to move to a solution not "out of the box" for Inventor)..

That does NOT mean that a table of data from the iproperties cannot be created..

Its just not going to be a table generated with the general table function..

I'll say this though..

So far it seems like you simply want to put the part number, project,etc.. into the iproperties (somewhere) and have that shown on the drawing..

Thats very commonly done and that data is typically included in a drawings title block..

You did post that picture but I don't understand why you want a single drawing to have a table where you enter or log multiple part numbers or multiple projects or multiple clients on a single drawing.. Are you reusing parts between projects and each time you do so you add a new row to indicate which project/client that is being used for and do you have a new part number virtually assigned for that same part but its just the clients internal cross reference part number or something?

Hi mcgyvr,

Got a bit occupied with other things could not responded earlier.

This clarifies things with respect to functionality we have, for now we stick to standard way of doing things. In future if required can dig more into the concept of ilogic.

We have parts that we use in different configurations of top-assemblies, projects, also could be different clients. As we do not use vault, we were thinking of having history on the concerned drawing with a hidden-sheet.

Inventor has a revision table tool.

You'll find it under:

Drawing file (.DWG / .IDW) > Anotate tab > Table Panel > Revision Button.

It will allow you to track the revisions of the drawing (not the part file .IPT).

Does that help?

@PaulMunford

Yes its one way to approach it, as log is created each time an autofill row is inserted. Thanks!
