I can't seem to find the setting that will allow you to place the leader at the beginning of the text call-out when pointing from the left side.

to expand on what Kacper Suchomski suggested, when you edit the styles and standards, you need to navigate to the text style used for the leader and in there, you can change the vertical justification to top.
