I am working on a frame generated assembly, with multiple parts (241 to be exact). Approximately 4-5 times a day, everyday, as I am saving my assembly, I get the error message telling me that a later version of some part/assy has been saved by me. I check the files in my explorer, and sure enough, there is some random part with the extension .new.ver. It is usually a file I wasn't even editing. I proceed to shut everything down, saving what I can, delete the problem file, rename the .new.ver and hope it works. There are no errors in my assembly, no sickly red cross.
I have read multiple threads on this topic, and most suggestions are to check the network, but we use Vault, so my files are being saved to my Vaultworkspace on my computer. The network should not be an issue.
It is so frustrating, that I am contemplating starting over and drawing everything in 2D. If I cannot trust the software, I prefer not to use it.
Has there been a solution yet, or has someone figured out why this happens, so it can be avoided?
I have spent weeks on this assembly, I really don't want to have to scrap the whole thing. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can keep this from happening?

Hi Myles1,
Edit: Oops, just saw where you say you are working on a local workspace... please disregard the questions about network connections, but what about other factors that might interrupt the write process?
Typically when I have seen the orphaned new.ver files it was due to network latency issues or something similar.
Are you saving to a network location, or somewhere else where connection problems and write speeds might be causing a delay or interruption during the file write process that it taking place during a save? Or maybe a virus scan that is causing interruptions?
I hope this helps.

I am saving to my own hard drive......C:\VaultWorkspace. Not sure how network issues would effect that.
Virus scans run overnight, not during business hours, to avoid issues like this.

If SP1 means Inventor service pack 1 you might look into the other updates that are out there, I found this one, there might be others:

Hi Myles1,
At this link JDMather reports that is was a known issue with Inventor 2011:

"I have seen this error before as well. You are right it is very annoying, but I have found a work around. When you see this error, click on the Inventor icon, manage, and refresh. This will reload all open files and you should be able to save now without closing everything and reopening."
I hope this helps.

Thanks.
I've updated my service pack, and I'll keep the workaround in mind next time it happens.
