Jumping sketch dimensions

There is something which wonders me for quit some time.

If I place sketch dimensions, I always try to place them pretty neat as if it were a drawing.

In this way, the sketch dimensions are easier to read and changes easier to be made.

For example, I place a dimension in this position (see image 1.png)

I fill in the right dimension (image 2.png)

If I than hit enter, dimension jumps to another position (image 3.png)

Sometime the jump is pretty big and several dimensions are place on top of eachother often.

Is this a bug or behaviour or can I avoid this with some kind of setting within Inventor or Windows?

They get scaled in the % of change that you change the Dimension.

If anyone ever finds a way to stop that from happening, i need to know too!

The only "fix" i know of is to create the geometry at the correct size/position before dimensioning it. But even then, if you change it later it will scale again -.-

This should definitly be a Application option.

@Lucas.dolinarVFXZU  You are right! If the dimension to enter is twice the value of the actual length of the line, the dimension jumps twice as far, if the entered value is half ot the length, it jumps to the other side of the desired position (is half the distance).

I find this a very stange and a very annoying behaviour! Maybe it has to be posted on the idea station!

Hi! Please try changing the following option and see if it helps.

Go to Tools -> App options -> Sketch -> uncheck "Auto-scale sketch geometries on initial dimension."

Many thanks!

Hi Shiue,

Thank you for your reply. I have tried this setting, but unchecking this option stops scaling of the geometry, but not the scaling of the dimenion-lines...

Yes there is certainly room to improve that "functionality" and its typically more of a nuisance than is actually helpful IMO.. Often times I get dimensions way out in space with insanely long extension line tails.
