IV11 SP1: Why am I getting a "Create Reference Vector" notice

After migrating an assembly from IV10 SP3 to IV11 SP1, I now get the notice
shown in the JPG below seven times upon opening the assembly. I checked
everything out of the vault, including library files, executed the "Rebuild All"
command, saved everything, and closed the file. However I get the same notice
seven times upon re-opening the assembly.

Why am I getting this notice? And , more importantly, what do I have to do
to correct the problem?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Sincerely,

Michael

the Create Reference Vector is probably something internal to IV. If you modify your project so that the file is not in a read-only library, then it will probably work.

If you have a library of parts at a particular location, it is useful to create a seperate project to work with this library.

Josh:

I appreciate the recommendation, but we would prefer to continue accessing
these files from libraries. We considered changing when we first implemented
Vault last year, but decided the benefits of using libraries outweighed the
benefits of making them regular parts.

But I must admit that the ongoing problems with libraries is wearing thin.
My biggest complaint with them has been Inventor's obsession with saving
files that have not changed. Having been told that much work had been put
into Inventor 11 to address this problem, I was actually looking forward to
finally putting the library issues behind us. However now I am wondering if
Inventor 11 merely swapped the save obsession for an obsession with posting
notices.

For now, I am hoping this is something that can be explained and corrected.

Sincerely,

Michael

right, use the libraries great idea (we do this too).

BUT, if/when you need to edit your library, you need to make a project just for it. In the library project (lets call this Standard Parts), you will not have any libraries (except maybe for textures). The Standard Parts Project will have the location set to the path of your library root. Also, the Standard Parts project will know nothing about your "regular" parts or where they are stored.

BTW - I'm speaking in Single User Project terms, so this may or may not be similar for a project that uses Vault. Message was edited by: Josh_Petitt

Josh:

I apologize for having not followed you earlier.

I have used used a library project to edit library files, but since Inventor
stores the path to the file in the file it has limitations. When you switch
back to the single project (we're configured this way also), any recently
edited library files used in an assembly will need to be saved (again) so
that they can update their path information (since they are now accessed
through a library path rather than being in the workspace).

The error I got was while opening an assembly file that contained library
files that had merely been migrated from IV10 to IV11 - they had not been
edited. But I checked them out anyway, did a rebuild all, and forced a save
trying to eliminate these notices. This had no effect whatsoever so
obviously something else is going on.

Sincerely,

Michael

Any new news on this? I have been getting this error lately. I do not use the Vault.

Thanks, Dan

I just got this same message three times opening an idw. What seems odd to me is, all I am doing is opening the file, I am not trying to modify anything.
