Issue with Tear tool in sheetmetal

Hey all,

Does anyone have any advice for help with my issue.

 

The gap tool is not reaching all the way to the end of my pipe cut off.
here is an image of the problem

I am trying to convert this pipe to sheet metal, so then I can turn it into a drawing, print this out and cut it with scissors, then wrap it round actual pipe and draw the outline with a marker.

 

File attached.

 

If anyone can help me, especially before Christmas, would be warmly appreciated.

This could do it. I've changed k-factor a bit more from 0.999 to 1 (Just to let you know).

Double thickening is the main change.

What is the k_factor? Seems like a complete mystery to me. Im just working on my final university of my bachleours project.

Hi Ben,

k-factor is normally set to 0,44 in Inventor and determines the position of the surface with non length changes in a sheet metal.

Example: For a sheet with 3 mm thickness Inventor places this surface at 0.44*3 = 1.32 mm from the inner surface. Bend region below 1.32 mm get shortened, regions more than 1.32 mm get lengthened. That's because bending is not symmetric, but it additionally depends on bending process and bending machine used.

 

In your case, you're wrapping a thin sheet of paper round the outside of the tube. Therefore a k-factor of 1 should be used.

 

The thickening operations (features Thicken1 and Thicken2) are used for getting orthogonal edges in the flat pattern. In return, you're bending a flat sheet, and the result are no angled edges as in your initial shape, but the edges after thickening. These must be done twice - from inside out and from outside in.
